Career path

Belén Zahera She is a teacher, artist, and researcher. She is currently the Head of Academic Programs for the Photography and Audiovisual Communication Department at the School. TAI.

As an artist, he has participated in national and international exhibitions in galleries and institutions such as La Casa Encendida (Madrid), Künstlerhaus (Vienna), Care/of (Milan), W139 (Amsterdam), Gasworks (London), CA2M (Madrid) and the Kunstinstituut Melly (Rotterdam), among others. 

She has received the Generaciones Award from the Montemadrid Foundation (2013) and the Botín Foundation Visual Arts Grant (2014), as well as funding from public bodies such as the Ministry of Culture, Tourism and Sports of the Community of Madrid and Acción Cultural Española. She has also been an artist-in-residence at The Florence Trust (London, 2009) and Care/Of (Milan, 2017).

Within the field of education and artistic research, she has been a co-founder of Salon Flux (London), a member of Proyecto Rampa (Madrid) and co-director of the independent art studies program THEGYM (Madrid).

She has been an editor and contributor to various publications and has given workshops and talks in institutions and independent spaces in Spain and abroad.

Research lines

Her research explores the gray area where material culture, the body, and the brain converge, focusing especially on the influence of materiality on artistic practice and on the processes of ideation, imagination, and symbolic transposition.
