Joan Fontcuberta and Camille Henrot, speakers at the II AIE International Congress

November 13, 2023

The University School of Arts TAI presents the second edition of Congress International IEA (Art, Research and Education): a meeting between teachers, researchers and artists in which you can attend workshops, round tables, performances, virtual gallery, installations, video-essay screenings and much more.

This edition will feature plenary presentations by the photographer and essayist Joan Fontcuberta and the visual artist Camille Henrot, both creators with a great international career behind them.

Joan Fontcuberta (1955, Barcelona) is a Spanish artist, teacher, essayist, critic and art promoter specialized in photography and recognized with many international awards. The presentation that Fontcuberta will make in TAI is entitled Photography and postphotography: from alchemy to algorithms. In contrast to the cult of the image that prevailed before the industrial revolution, post-photography praises excess and dematerialization. The Internet, social networks, mobile phones, video surveillance cameras and Artificial Intelligence generate a visual oversaturation in which images become furious. At a time when the image constitutes the social space of the human, how can we regain control of its meaning? With his projects, Joan Fontcuberta examines what remains of photography to retain in its remains crumbs of truth and memory.

Camille Henrot (1978, Paris) is one of the most influential voices in contemporary art today. She combines drawing, painting, sculpture, installation and film. She has exhibited in some of the most important museums in New York, Berlin, Rome and Japan, among others. Camille Henrot's artistic practice encompasses film, drawing, painting, sculpture and installation. In her talk, Henrot will discuss her unique research methodology in both physical and digital formats, beginning with film Grosse Fatigue (2013), produced in part at the Smithsonian Institution in Washington, DC, for which he later won the Silver Lion at the 55th Venice Biennale, and his recent work on painting and drawing entitled System of Attachment (2019-2022). Henrot's approach to research is multi-pronged and constantly evolving, sparked by a childhood drive to understand the contemporary human condition in an increasingly connected world.

The mission of this congress es delve into the relationship between artistic practice, research and university education. To do this, on November 16 and 17, 2023, TAI opens its doors to teachers, researchers and artists.

THE THEMES OF THE CONFERENCE ARE THE FOLLOWING:

  • artistic interdisciplinarity.
  • Research based on artistic practice.
  • University artistic teaching (teaching innovation).
  • The arts as a tool for social change.
  • Creation methodologies.
  • Employability in the arts.
