«Stasis», the final project of the 4th Degree in Photography

June 4, 2024

The artists of the 4th Degree in Photography put the finishing touch to their formative stage in TAI with Stasis, the photographic project that will be exhibited at Casa Quince.

On June 13, the students of the last Photography course will inaugurate the exhibition of stasis, a project that reflects the essence of a new generation of artists which advocates honesty, research into the possibilities of the image and analysis of the photographic surface.

"Affective and sexual relationships and the formation of desire coexist with honesty, knowledge and the hybridization of their encounters, stripped of categories that do not count but rather pigeonhole."

Juan Jesús Torres, professor TAI, will be the curator of this exhibition that will open its doors in House Fifteen, a photographic and audiovisual space located in the heart of Madrid. This project represents a unique opportunity for students to disseminate, promote and promote their talent in the industry, sharing their final project with the artistic community.

"The photography carried out by this generation assumes a series of characteristics that expand the concept of photography towards a sophistication of the devices emerging from an epistemologically visual culture."

About stasis

In his influential study published in 1996 in the journal October, George Baker examined contemporary photography, highlighting the duality between narrativity and stagnation (stasis) in the work of August Sander. Baker noted how photography, often overly interpreted, has adopted a narrative and fictional ontology. This is particularly relevant in the digital age, where the photographic image often surpasses its content.

The 21st century generation, immersed in a digital environment, challenges gender stereotypes and seeks expression honest and suggestive photography that reflects their identities in constant evolution. His work transcends conventional labels, exploring the photographic surface as a tool to capture the essence of his time and experiences.

"They tell things and they tell them as they know;

They have thrown a party and no one should be offended if they are not invited."
